Brussels, Belgium.

I would say this wasn't my most anticipated European city to visit. This was a city that I had been told didn't have a ton of excitement surrounding it. But my visit to Brussels was the exact opposite.

So what made my Brussels experience so great?! Well, the city is rich in a wonderful history, culture, food and great beer!

Here are my top 9 things that you should do while in Brussels:

Eat the Waffles

I know this is cliche, but who are we kidding? These are actually the greatest waffles that you will ever have. And the best part is, they are good from almost any place that you get them!

Visit Grand Place

The first time that we walked in, it was evening time. We were visiting just after Christmas, in fact on New Years Eve, so the Christmas decorations were still on display. Between the lights, the Christmas tree, the natural beauty of the buildings and the mood that the music was setting, I was left breathless.

The first moment that I laid eyes on the plaza was a moment very similar to when I saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time. I encourage you to sit down here, take it in, and just relish in your surroundings.

Take a selfie with Manneken Pis (and  even Jeanneke Pis)

Meaning "little man pee" in Dutch, this is a quite odd landmark to say the least. It is simply a statue of a naked little boy endlessly peeing into a fountain. There is even a mock statue of this called Jeanneke Pis which is almost as equally amusing.

Visit St. Michael Cathedral

As I have traveled through Europe, I have come to love seeing all of the different cathedrals and comparing the architecture between not only the different countries but also the time periods in which they were constructed. I have learned that each one of these sacred buildings tell of story of it's people at the period that it was built.

See the Atomium

A landmark that was originally built in 1958 for the World's Fair. Since then, the area has been converted to a big tourist trap honestly, but the Atomium itself is a must see Brussels attraction.

Go to the Museum of the city

A great museum to shed light on how the city took its shape. Allow at least two hours here if you want to take your time. The highlight of the museum is the original Manneken Pis statue!

Drink beer!

Save water, drink beer. The Belgium motto. There is an endless amount of options to drink beer in the city. Whatever you do, you have to have the Delirium Tremens (can be found almost anywhere) and a Lambic and/or Kriek Beer which originated in Belgium.

The places that I recommend the most if you have the time while here is Delirium, Brussels Beer Project and Cantillon!

Have some Belgian Fries

Once you have finished a few beers, you'll most certainly have the munchies. Stop by at one of the local "Frites" shops for a nice snack. Try Curry Ketchup!

Try the chocolate

Belgian Chocolate, Enough Said.

Get lost

Last but certainly not least, you need to wander the city. You never know what you might find along the way. I encourage you not to be shy, the people we encountered here were nice people and always willing to point us in the right direction!

No matter what you do, I am sure you're time in Brussels will be a time you will never forget. What are you waiting for? Go find your Prime Adventure in Brussels!
